Teri W. to “I Wish I didn’t have Asperger’s” #AutismPositivity2012

Dear Wish:

I wish I could look into your eyes & tell you that you are more than a diagnosis.  That your future holds an infinite number of amazing possibilities.  That you are capable of a wonderful & fulfilling life.  You see, I know those things are possible.  I have seen them happen with my son.  He is 20 years old &, while he moves to the beat of his own drum, he is accomplishing much & he is so much happier now that he was when he was struggling through elementary, middle & high school.  College is a new beginning for him, a new horizon & he is sailing in that direction with much hope & joy.  He has found friends through a few new hobbies & things are coming together.  This can happen for you too.  Know you are wonderfully unique.  We all have challenges but don’t let yours overwhelm you.  Hang onto joy.  Find a reason each day to smile & share your life & your thoughts & heart with those around you.  Let them help you find your way.

Teri W.
